Battle Droids 'colors'

What do the colors (red, yellow, blue) on Battle Droids mean?
Just like the Clone Troopers, the Battledroid colours signify different
DROID TYPES
Battle droids are structurally identical irrespective of
job function. To increase efficiency, however, droids are
pre-programmed with specialized subroutines. Infantry and
Command Officer droids are fitted with power backpacks to
boost operational range and extend recharge intervals.
No colour = Infantry (canon fodder)
Blue = Pilot Droid
Red = Security Droid
Yellow = Command Officer
I find it amazing that droids can function as military officers, or even as
a general!
Those colours are small(ish) splashes on the standard beige droid
(mainly on the shoulders). I'm not quite sure where the completely red
battle droids that Hasbro make in their toy range come in.
P.S. I thought that scene on General Greivous ship when the two droids
ran away from the fighting was highly implausible.
You obviously don't play many computer games - computer AI controlled
characters are always doing stupid and "implausible" things. They run
into dirrect fire, ran away, get stuck behind walls, etc., etc. :-)
I've seen droids such as C3PO express concern for their survival, so
Separatist droids should be allowed to have survival instincts too.

There is no ranks as such - no "General" or "Sargeant" battle droid.

There's only Command battle droids. This is more from the Episode I
Visual Dictionary:

COMMAND OFFICER
In order to streamline communication between Trade
Federation officials and droid troops, certain battle
droids, such as OOM-9, are designated Command Officer.
Orders are conveyed to officier droids via priority
channels from the Central Control Computer processors.

Here's an interesting bit from the Episode I Visual Dictionary:

Their lack of independant thought processors make
battle droids immune to fear, cowardice or mercy pleas.

Hmmm ... maybe they were slightly upgraded by the time of Episode III -
it is 13 years later. :-)

Ok the whole battle droids talking, except to non-droids, is dumb, they are
all controlled by a central computer so why use speech to communnicate to
each other, its redundant and inefficient

Nope. Grievous is NOT a droid. Grievous is a Cyborg.

Much like Vader, he was a real being that had a terrible accident and
was then saved by being put into a mostly robotic body by Palpatine
(who may have purposely caused the crash in the first place). Unlike
Vader though, only the brain and a few other bits of the original
Grievous survived.

Grievous HATES being considered a droid.

you also saw his organic heart, lungs, and eyes.
grievous is kind of like a pre-vader. cyborg...originally a living organism
who got messed up, and had to have all the cybernetics to survive.
